Hong Wai Onn is a Malaysia Book of Records holder. His debut book, A Chemical Engineer in the Palm Oil Milling Industry, entered the Malaysia Book of Records under the Human World category as the Longest Palm Oil Milling Memoir, consisting of a total of 52,302 words.

Background

Hong Wai Onn is a European Engineer and Chartered Chemical Engineer and an award-winning part time author with experience harnessing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to advance palm oil processing industry.

Hong was born in Ipoh, Malaysia, and grew up in a small family. He attended Universiti Malaysia Sabah, where he studied chemical engineering. He started his career in the palm oil industry with Genting Plantations and this exploration eventually formed the basis of his first book—a short memoir called A Chemical Engineer in the Palm Oil Milling Industry.

He has over 15 years of experience in the palm oil and biotechnology industries, covering a very wide spectrum of responsibilities, including production, engineering, project management, applied research, process safety and leadership roles.

Passionate about volunteerism, he has been serving several non-profit and professional communities, including being an Honorary Secretary of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) in Malaysia Board and a founding member of the IChemE Palm Oil Processing Special Interest Group. He currently sits in the Industry Advisory Panel for Chemical Engineering at few universities.

Hong holds Executive MBA with Honours from the Quantic School of Business and Technology. He is a Freeman of the City of London and a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and the Royal Society of Chemistry.
